Christmas by Starlight, Redlands’ annual free Christmas concert, will be an unstoppable night of fun on Saturday 1 December 2012.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said this year’s event, to be held at Norm Price Park – Redland Showgrounds in Long Street, Cleveland, had been designed to go ahead rain or shine.
“Christmas by Starlight will go head in the event of rain, so nothing will dampen the spirits of our performers, community groups and residents this year,” Cr Williams said.
“While the concert is an open-air event, provisions have been made to ensure that the stage and equipment are weatherproof.
“We have an outstanding concert line-up with our headlining act Mirusia coming home to Redlands to perform, fresh from her worldwide tour with André Rieu.
“There will be something for everyone at this year’s Christmas by Starlight.”
From 3pm there will be food stalls, children’s activities including an animal zoo and jumping castles, display stands, roving entertainers and a visit from Santa.
The concert begins at 5.15pm with a special children’s performance featuring entertainers Christmas in Wonderland.
The twilight carols begin at 5.45pm, with Mirusia being supported by a host of talented local performers including Redland Rhapsody Chorus, world champion beat-boxer Matt Gibbs, Craig Martin, Kiara Rodrigues, Dakota Striplin, Alayna McAulay, Oliver Samson, Courtney Heaton, Inah Moe, Jal Joshua, Breanna Fielding, Chloe Makiol, Katie Green and Strictly Dance.
The finale will be a fireworks display at 8pm lighting up the Redlands sky.
The event is run by Redland City Council, with the assistance of generous sponsors: Bayside Bulletin, Gold Cats Stradbroke Flyer, J.J. Richards, Koala Graphix, SkyBoard Australasia, Stockland Cleveland and Veolia Transport.
Cr Williams said the generous support of these sponsors helped Council to provide the largest free event in the Redlands to herald in the Christmas season.
“Christmas by Starlight is a great way to get into the festive spirit, so I hope everyone comes along.”
Sponsor Veolia Transport will be running free buses to and from the event, departing at different Redlands locations including ferry terminals at Toondah Harbour, Cleveland and Redland Bay Marina.
A special free ferry service – courtesy of event sponsor Gold Cats Stradbroke Flyer – will run from Toondah Harbour, Cleveland to One Mile Jetty, Dunwich after the concert.
