The youth of the Redlands are being encouraged to take advantage of a host of free activities being held during National Youth Week from 4-13 April.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said this year’s theme ‘Our Voice. Our Impact’ held great significance for local youth.
“The youth of the Redlands have a voice and can make a difference, and National Youth Week is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate that fact,” she said.
“Council has partnered with other local youth networks to deliver an exciting and entertaining program of events, including skaters from the Skate Australia Tour who will be at the Thornlands Skate Park on Monday 7 April.
“Another innovative project will be the My One Thing consultation project, which asks young people what they love about the Redlands and how it could be improved.
“This project will use a pop-up photo booth at all youth week events and recognises that the Redlands has plenty to offer local youth, but also that our young people have a voice and are the best people to suggest how to improve our city for our future residents.
“Participants are encouraged to upload their image using the #myonething hashtag to help connect the conversation with other youths.”
Cr Williams said there were a variety of activities available during National Youth Week (NYW), which is the largest celebration of young people in Australia.
“This includes art activities, an ‘island style’ indigenous youth expo and an epic day out that will include music, dancers, skateboarding and BMX displays,” she said.
“Council is proud to support these activities, many of which have been organised by members of the Redlands Youth Network.”
