Asbestos safety
Be safe with your renovation waste
Just a reminder that to protect the health and safety of our customers and workers, all waste loads of cement sheeting, fibro, renovation waste and tiles are being routinely inspected at our mainland waste transfer stations for materials that could contain asbestos. If in any doubt, our gate staff will treat renovation/building materials as containing asbestos.
Asbestos can be found in lots of old building materials, and can be very hard to identify. You can only dispose of asbestos containing material at Birkdale Waste Transfer Station – not Redland Bay – and under strict conditions.
It needs to be less than 10m2, double-wrapped and sealed in durable, thick plastic sheeting (builders’ plastic). You’ll also need to pay the asbestos disposal fee.
For more information about asbestos and its safe removal and disposal, visit our website.
Freedom of Entry to the City
Save the date: Saturday 12 April 2014, 11am
Redland City is bestowing the age-old honour of Freedom of Entry to the City to No.95 Wing of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) on Saturday 12 April 2014. This event will include a formal parade with 150 marchers, representing all nine of No.95 Wing’s squadrons, accompanied by a band and air force cadets.
Redland residents are invited to come and line the parade route on Middle Street, Cleveland (between Waterloo and Wynyard streets) to watch this historic event. The ceremony is also formal recognition from the RAAF of the important role our City played in the defence of our nation leading up to, and during, World War II.
Check our website for more details. Please note: there will be some traffic delays and closures along Middle Street, Cleveland during the parade.
