Redland City Mayor Karen Williams is calling on all Redland residents and business owners to don their onesies on Friday 13 June and help raise money for the homeless.
Cr Williams has already pledged to wear her onesie for the day in support of the Vinnies 2014 CEO Sleepout, which she will be taking part in on Thursday 19 June and now she wants others to get on board.
Cr Williams said Redlands Biggest Onesie Day, was a lighthearted way to raise money for a serious community issue.
“The sad reality is no community is immune to homelessness and this is a lighthearted way to raise money and awareness for a serious community issue,” Cr Williams said.
“Homelessness isn’t just about sleeping rough, it’s also the people who have no stable accommodation, sleeping in cars or relying on friends’ and family’s couches to get them through.
“Wearing your favourite onesie or PJ’s and making a donation is a way to raise funds for St Vincent de Paul, but also a very visual way of generating conversation and interest in this problem,” Cr William said.
“We already have some local businesses on board, but we’d love to see more.”
“I was honoured to be part of the CEO sleepout in 2013 and will sleep rough for a night again this year. In the morning I get to go home, but it is a humbling experience knowing it is a nightly reality for some 100,000 Australians.”
It’s easy to participate in Redlands Biggest Onesie Day for the Homeless – wear your onesie or PJ’s to work, shopping, meeting your friends or around home on Friday 13 June and donate on the Vinnies CEO Sleepout website.
Collection tins will also be a various locations around the Redlands, including Council Customer Service Centres and Libraries.
