RDA Logan & Redlands (Queensland) will hold a two day housing and society forum in June to explore issues such as disability, youth and aged care needs, social housing and homelessness, new funding models and building partnerships.
Building Blocks for Change 2.0, co-hosted with Griffith University and facilitated by the former Premier of Tasmania David Bartlett, will be held at Sirromet Winery, Mt Cotton on June 10 and 11.
It will be the second housing forum for the Logan and Redlands region, following the RDA’s highly successful inaugural event in 2012. Housing, a national concern, is a significant and complicated issue in the region, with some of the most densely concentrated public housing in the state located in Logan, and Indigenous communities facing geographic disadvantage on Redlands’ islands.
The 2014 forum is expected to attract a broad range of participants, including researchers, housing service providers, non-government agencies, property developers, social and urban planners, economic development practitioners and all levels of government.
Key forum outcomes will include a new push towards integrated decision-making in the region and a greater awareness of the latest research and best practice examples.
“Forum thinker” will be Architect, Policy Adviser and CEO of Committee for Adelaide Tim Horton, the former South Australian Integrated Planning Commissioner, while Jude Munro AO, a former CEO of both Brisbane City Council and the City of Adelaide, will give the keynote address on “shaking up” governance and planning in Australia.
Speakers and panellists will include national renowned researchers, planners, economists and community representatives, as well as elected representatives The Hon Tim Mander MP, State Minister for Housing and Public Works, Cr Karen Williams, Mayor of Redland City and Senator The Hon Jan McLucas, Shadow Minister for Housing and Homelessness.
