Redlanders are being called on to give their ideas on the future development of the city, including housing possibilities and to give feedback on a plan that charts the economic prosperity of the city for the next 25 years.
Redland City Council is holding a series of forums, neighbourhood talks, displays and online activities around City Plan 2015, an upcoming Land Supply Availability Study in the Redlands and the draft Economic Development Strategy that was released last month.
Mayor Karen Williams said informal engagement was an ideal way to educate and involve the community in the planning process, before formal submissions are invited on the draft planning scheme during the statutory public consultation period early next year.

“The Redland City Plan 2015, which is currently being developed, will provide a blueprint to guide the future of the city as it grows. The plan will help guide planning decisions from where development can occur, right down to how easy or hard it is for residents to do something on their property,” she said.
“This is also your chance to have your say on the draft Economic Development Strategy and think about what is needed to make the city prosper – what works in our economy and what can we do better,” she said.
“And we want to hear from you about the sort of housing you would like to see in the Redlands and where, and understand how to the planning scheme relates to you and your property.”
To set the scene, there are City Plan 2015 displays in the Capalaba, Cleveland and Victoria Point Libraries until August 9. These displays will be partially staffed by planners, with attendance times posted at the libraries.
Council’s Planning and Development spokesperson Cr Julie Talty said a series of information and engagement activities would be held around the city, kicking off on Thursday 24 July and continuing into August, before a statutory consultation period on City Plan 2015 in early 2015.
“Over the next weeks there will be activities including six one-hour community forums for groups of up to 20 people at libraries, with the first three sessions looking at economic development. The later forums will discuss housing possibilities, as part of an upcoming Land Supply Availability Study, and help provide an understanding the city planning process,” she said.
“There will also be opportunities to talk to Councillors about city planning at pop-up information booths around the city in the same timeframe.”
Residents can find out more about the planning process or discuss particular issues by hosting a city planner for a one hour Kitchen Table Talk session on request.
