Have your say on the local laws that help govern our city

Residents can now have their say on important topics such as keeping animals, running events and parking infringements, with engagement currently open on draft new local laws for Redland City.

These draft laws use the principles and framework of a set of model local laws developed by State Government and include updates to a range of areas from improving public safety, to making it easier for Council to direct people to clean up unsightly and overgrown properties.

  • Clearer requirements for erecting temporary signs (Subordinate Local Law 1.4)
  • Making it easier to run events in the city (Subordinate Local Law 1.12)
  • Restricting residents from feeding native birds in a way that causes major nuisance to neighbours (Local Law 3)
  • Making it possible for people to keep a miniature pig as a pet (Local Law 2)
  • Aligning parking infringements with State Government penalty criteria, potentially changing infringement amounts (Subordinate Local Law 5)
  • Changes to the control of dogs on properties 2,000 m2 or more in koala management areas (Local Law 2)

Local laws govern everything from holding events to what animals you can keep at your property, so everyone is encouraged to visit Council’s website to have their say.  Feedback is open now until 8 October.
