The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds, heavy rainfall, abnormally high tides and dangerous surf later this week as a tropical low pressure system extends south.
Heavy rain and damaging winds are possible from Thursday which may lead to flash flooding. Rainfall totals in some locations are expected to be more than 300mm in 24 hours. Damaging gusts may reach around 90km an hour, mostly near the coast. The highest tides of the year are expected from Thursday, bringing dangerous surf conditions and significant beach erosion.
All Redland City residents are encouraged to prepare their homes and businesses for severe weather. Island residents are also encouraged to stock up on essential supplies in case the weather affects ferry services.
