A festival showcasing all the culture and colour of Indigenous and Pacific Islander entertainment is set to explode onto the stage at the Redland Performing Art Centre (RPAC).
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said tickets were now on sale for Pacific Sound as part of the Pacific Tides Festival on Saturday 8th of August.
“Pacific Tides is a free multicultural festival celebrating traditional and contemporary Indigenous and Pacific Islander entertainment,” she said.
“A major part of the festival will be Pacific Sound, a showcase of Indigenous and Pacific Islander music from around the world.
“The Redlands is an ethnic melting pot with many live music fans, so this event is the perfect fit for the city – fusing our cultural roots and love of quality entertainment.”
Council’s Community and Cultural Service portfolio spokesperson Cr Lance Hewlett said the Pacific Sound concert would be headlined by New Zealand’s SWISS and Australia’s own Fatai.
“SWISS was born and raised in Wellington New Zealand and has established himself as one of Australia’s hottest young pacific poly-reggae artists,” he said.
“His songs, including Time of the Month, Miss Liquor, Slow Wind, and the remake of classic hit Blue Bayou, have had a huge amount of radio play. He has also been nominated for Best Pacific Male Artist, Best Pacific Urban Artist, Best Pacific Song (for Slow Wind) and the People’s Choice Award.
“Fatai is a Melbourne-based soul and pop singer signed to Mercury Records Australia. She began singing professionally with her family from the age of seven and has performed as a soloist from 2009.
“In 2012, Fatai was a semi-finalist on the first season of The Voice and has gone on to tour her own sold-out shows across many cities in New Zealand and Australia.”
Also performing at the concert are the high-powered and energetic nine-piece tour-de-force Dubmarine, TSI band CKNU, fusion artist Mark Lowndes and Reggae/RnB/soul artist JSQZE. This will be a phenomenal line up of international, national and local profile musicians from the Indigenous and Pacific Islander musical community not to be missed! Tickets are $40 – $55 and can be booked via the RPAC website or by calling the RPAC Box Office on (07) 3829 8131.
