Queensland’s picturesque North Stradbroke Island and its many quality breaks will play host to the 2015 Surf Dive ‘n Ski Australian Junior Surfing Titles between November 28th – December 5th.
Six states will be represented at the titles across Under 14, 16 and 18 age groups in both boys and girls divisions at the event that is considered the benchmark of junior surfing in the country. The Australian School Surfing Association Titles will be part of the event again in 2015.

A win at the national level is regarded as a major step in a surfer’s competitive career with the list of past winners featuring some of the greatest names in world surfing including World Surf League (WSL) Men’s World Champions Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson, fellow Gold Coasters Dean Morrison and Bede Durbidge, plus former World Champions Mark Richards, Tom Carroll and Damian Hardman.
“The SDS Australian Junior Surfing Titles will be held on the wave rich North Stradbroke Island which is a breeding ground of Aussie surfing champions including current world number 11 Bede Durbidge. It’s a known quality surf location that we hope will deliver some excellent waves for the country’s very best junior surfers,” said Surfing Australia CEO Andrew Stark.
Six-time WSL Women’s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore, former World Champion Chelsea Hedges, and current WSL Tour surfers Tyler Wright and Sally Fitzgibbons are also included on the prestigious honour roll.
Mayor Karen Williams said the Redlands was looking forward to showcasing the region’s spectacular scenery and world-class waves when it hosts the SDS Australian Junior Surfing Titles this year.
“With its crystal clear waters, breathtaking beaches and abundant wildlife just 30 minutes from the mainland, North Stradbroke Island is a unique location to host the titles and we look forward to welcoming competitors from across Australia,” she said.
North Stradbroke Island local councillor Craig Ogilvie said the event was a major coup for the island’s burgeoning tourism industry.
“Straddie is an idyllic holiday destination and one of Australia’s best kept secrets,” he said.
