Redland City Council’s flags will fly at half-mast this week in tribute to the lives lost in Friday’s Paris terrorist attack.
Council CEO Bill Lyon said the gesture, while small, would add to the many displays of sympathy and solidarity with the French being shown across the world.
“While we are a small community half a world away, the sheer magnitude of this indiscriminate attack will no doubt have had a profound effect on many Redlanders,’’ Mr Lyon said.
“On behalf of all residents, Council will fly its flags at half-mast from tomorrow (Tuesday) for the rest of the week to show both our sympathy for the victims and their families and our abhorrence of terrorism.’’
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams will also represent the city at a special candlelight vigil at 6pm in King George Square at the invitation on the Honorary French Consul Lady Jane Edwards.
