Signs warning beachgoers of the dangers of stonefish were erected today at popular swimming and wading areas across the Redlands.
Council crews erected 50 signs on the mainland, North Stradbroke Island, Coochiemudlo Island and the Southern Moreton Bay Islands following two incidents yesterday at Raby Bay. Further to our Facebook post last night, only one of the adults stung yesterday at Raby Bay required nerve block and antivenom.
Beachgoers are urged to wear thick-soled shoes if wading in coastal waters this weekend. The sting from a stonefish is very painful and victims should seek immediate medical attention.
