Redland libraries are set to pop-up in parks across the city with Council launching a new alfresco reading experience.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the Redland Libraries Connecting to You initiative would see library activities taken to local parks.
“This initiative combines two things Redlanders love – our libraries and our local parks,” she said.
“From next week we will bring our much-loved libraries to local neighbourhoods, making it even easier for local families to enjoy activities like storytelling, craft or simply reading a good book.
“This initiative is part of our First Five Forever program, which is funded through the State Library of Queensland and boosts literacy for children five and under.”
Cr Williams said while part of the First Five Forever program, the Connecting to You initiative also welcomed older children.
“Our libraries offer a range of family-friendly activities throughout the year and if residents aren’t already members of our libraries I would encourage them to sign up and get along to some of these activities,” she said.
“The initiative was originally rolled-out at the end of last year and the next Connecting to You event will be held Friday 10 February at Beth Boyd Park Thornside, with a further five events to then be held in Cleveland, Redland Bay, Thornlands, Ormiston and Victoria Point up until April.
“All residents have to do is come along between 9.30 and 11 am and bring a hat, sunscreen and a water bottle.
“Our libraries also offer an online catalogue of books, music and DVDs, meaning you don’t ever have to leave home to enjoy a good read.”
