Redlands IndigiScapes Centre will officially open its new native plant nursery at a community event on Saturday 19 January, two weeks before the main centre building closes for refurbishment.
Mayor Karen Williams said the nursery opening ensured the community would still be able to access IndigiScapes’ display gardens and local native plants during construction.
“Council is about to turn soil on the next stage of its multi-million dollar project to enhance IndigiScapes and improve the visitor experience of this naturally-wonderful venue,” Cr Williams said.
“From 28 January, the main centre building, car park and some bush trails surrounding the centre will close for the first half of the year to allow works to take place.
“These improvements, jointly funded by the State Government, include relocating and expanding the café, a new theatrette with conference facilities, a new environmental interpretation area and a refurbished entryway.
“The new native nursery, now located next to Myhorizon, will remain open and provide access to the display gardens and new toilet facilities.
“Our environmental extension programs will be operating from Capalaba Place and I encourage anyone with questions about services to visit the project webpage at redland.qld.gov.au/IndigiScapesExpansion.”
Division 7 Councillor Murray Elliott said the community event on Saturday 19 January would allow people to explore the new nursery and learn more about the works set to take place.
“From 9am – 1pm, people can meet our environmental officers and volunteers and ask questions about the project, or get advice on plant selection and growing native seedlings in their own backyard,” he said.
“There will also be a children’s seed bomb craft activity, seed propagation demonstration, free barbecue and other entertainment, so we hope to see lots of people enjoying this wonderful new community space.”
Official proceedings, with a cake cutting, will commence at the nursery at 9am.
