Redland City Council (RCC) Parks & Conservation Crew’s will be undertaking a planned burn within the Birkdale Community Precinct starting today Friday 5th May 2023, commencing at approximately 9:00am (weather permitting).
Location: 362-388 Old Cleveland Road East, Birkdale (L1 on RP14143)
Smoke dispersal: It is appreciated that these burns may cause some inconvenience, however all attempts will be made to limit any smoke hazards from the work. Traffic management (advisory signs and smoke hazard signs) will be in place as a contingency, in case smoke presents a hazard to the localised Streets.
Motorists are advised to drive with caution and to conditions. Residents should close windows and doors, and keep medications close by if suffering a respiratory condition.
Notifications: Notification letters have been delivered to surrounding residents. The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services communications centre will be notified prior to ignition and fire crews will remain on site until the fire is safe.
Wildlife: Conservation staff completed burn preparation this week – raking around habitat trees and logs. Staff will sweep the burn site prior to ignition, and will continue to monitor the situation to ensure all protected fauna are clear of the burn area.
