Queensland Touch Football is pleased to announce a partnership with Redland City Council, which will see the city host the Junior State Cup in 2024.
Set to be held from 4-6 July 2024, the Junior State Cup will head to south-east Queensland for the first time in the history of the event. The Junior State Cup is a ‘must do’ on the junior touch football calendar with the purpose of developing a love of touch football for life.
More than 3500 participants from 230-plus affiliate teams across the state are expected to converge on Redlands Coast for the competition, which promotes a fun and inclusive touch football experience, focused on junior athlete development.
Queensland Touch Football CEO Greg Denny said he was excited to announce the partnership with Redland City Council, and looks forward to working closely with Redland City Council and Redlands Touch Association to deliver the event.
“I am delighted to announce that the Junior State Cup will be hosted in Cleveland in July 2024,” Mr Denny said.
“The 2024 Junior State Cup in Cleveland provides our first opportunity in more than 25 years to bring our flagship event to south-east Queensland, and into the heart of one of the largest touch football communities in our state.
“The Redland Showgrounds provides a fantastic touch football venue and precinct area, with a track record of hosting quality events over a long period of time.
“Redlands Touch Association has a proud history dating back to their establishment in 1978 with exceptional growth in their membership over this time.
“We are already looking forward to delivering an exceptional Junior State Cup competition in 2024, and thank Redland City Council and Redlands Touch Association for their support,” he said.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said Council was proud to be a major event partner for the Queensland Junior State Cup.
“We know our community loves their sport and Council is excited by the opportunity to host this premier event for junior touch football players and their families,” Cr Williams said.
“Redlands Coast is becoming renowned as one of Australia’s most event-friendly destinations and already hosts a number of major sporting events encompassing rugby league, cricket, triathlons, surfing, trail running and mountain bike racing.
“Events such as the Junior State Cup are exciting for the many local families of junior touch football competitors, but are also welcomed by the wider community for the economic benefits they bring.
“We look forward to welcoming all the competitors, their families and officials in July 2024 and, while they are here, showcasing all the naturally-wonderful attractions on Redlands Coast.”
Division 2 Councillor Peter Mitchell said the Junior State Cup was a major coup for Redlands Coast and for touch football.
“Attracting the event has been a fantastic example of partnership with Queensland Touch Football, Redlands Touch Association, Council departments and elected representatives,” Cr Mitchell said.
“The event will put Redlands Coast on the map as a preferred location to hold such prestigious tournaments.
“As a long-term touch football player at Redlands Touch Association, I am thrilled to see the event here in our backyard.”
