Redlands Coast residents have heeded the call to prepare for heavy rains and possible flooding that could result from Tropical Cyclone Kirrily after it makes landfall, by stocking up on sandbags.
Redland City Mayor and Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) Chair Karen Williams said demand had been high for sandbags at all the city’s sandbagging stations including the three new mainland locations.
“It is very heartening to see residents are being proactive in the chance that we could face a wet weather event this long weekend or into early next week,” Cr Williams said.
“Council’s sandbagging stations will remain open this long weekend.
“Because demand is high, we ask residents to limit themselves to 10 free sandbags per vehicle to ensure there will be enough to go around.
“If you find stocks are depleted at a certain station, please head to Council’s South Street Depot that will be open from 7am to 6pm, or to Nuway Landscape Supplies, Thornlands during their operating hours.”
