Redlands Coast residents are being encouraged to check they have the best kerbside wheelie bin combination for their household as part of Redland City Council’s ‘Better Bin Bundle’ campaign.
Mayor Jos Mitchell said Council offered a flexible ‘bin menu’ where residents could choose from a variety of wheelie bin size options to suit their circumstances.
“By getting the right bins for your home, you can save money, get better value and contribute to a more sustainable future for Redlands Coast,” the Mayor said.

“If you currently have a standard 240L general waste and recycling bin combination, consider how Council’s bundling options might benefit you.”
Some options to get a better bin bundle include:
- Get a green waste bin (for mainland residents) and off-set the costs by down-sizing your landfill waste bin at the same time.
- Upsize your recycling bin from a 240L to a 340L for an extra one-off $30 set up fee. If you have chosen to get a green waste bin and downsize your general waste bin, there is no establishment fee to upsize your recycling bin in the same order.
- If you’re not filling your landfill bin, be rewarded and get a smaller waste bin.
The establishment fee for upsizing a recycling bin includes the cost of the bin, delivery fee and administration costs.
“The needs of households and budgets can change so it might be time to check you have the right bins for your home and are getting the best value for money,” the Mayor said.
“With about 17 per cent of recyclable items currently ending up in landfill from household red-lid bins, simply upsizing your recycling bin can make a difference.
“In fact, our data suggests that if all residents kept recyclables out of their red-lid bins, we’d save a further 6878 tonnes of waste going to landfill.
“The efforts of the community to separate out their waste, recycling and green waste will not only help improve environmental outcomes, but it will also mitigate the rising costs of sending waste to landfill.
“This will benefit the entire community as the costs of Council’s waste and recycling collection services are included as a utility charge in your residential rates bill.”
