Essential Redland City Council services and many organisational services will continue operating through Christmas.
Bins will continue to be collected, parks will continue to be maintained and essential compliance services active – ensuring the city looks its best and is safe during the festive season.
Some other Council services will be closed from close of business on Tuesday 24 December 2024 and will reopen on Thursday 2 January 2025. This includes Customer Service Centres and Council’s Contact Centre.

The following is a list of services that will close or have different operating hours over the break:
Customer Service Centres
Cleveland will be closed from 4.30pm on Tuesday 24 December 2024 until 8.30am on Thursday 2 January 2025.
Capalaba will be closed from 4.30pm on Tuesday 24 December 2024 until 9am on Thursday 2 January 2025.
Victoria Point will be closed from 4.30pm on Tuesday 24 December 2024 until 9am on Thursday 2 January 2025.
Council’s Contact Centre (for telephone calls) will close 4.30pm on Tuesday 24 December 2024 until 8.30am on Thursday 2 January 2025. Council’s emergency service number will operate during the closure period for Council-related emergencies.
Recycling and Waste Centres and waste collection services
Kerbside waste, recycling and green waste collections will continue as normal over the holiday period including Christmas Day. Collection services on Christmas Day will start earlier at 5am and for all other days please remember to put bins out before 6am on day of collection.
Park and street bin collections will also occur as scheduled.
For kerbside bins that were missed and not emptied between 25 December and 1 January, please phone the after-hours number (3829 8999) to arrange a collection; online requests will not be actioned.
All Recycling and Waste Centres will be closed on Christmas Day and will operate normal opening hours at all other times. Check Council’s website for details. Increased visitors are expected during peak Christmas periods and changed traffic conditions are planned for Birkdale Recycling and Waste Centre. If possible, please avoid the peak period of 10am – 2pm.
All new bin/exchange/repair requests submitted after 3pm Monday 23 December 2024 will start to be actioned from 2 January 2025 with the aim of completing deliveries by 8 January.
RecycleWorld at Redland Bay: Last trading day is Friday 20 December 2024 and it will re-open on Friday 3 January 2025; usual trading times are Tuesday and Friday, 10am-2pm.
Redlands Coast Visitor Information Centre
Open 7 days a week, 9am-4pm over the holidays, except Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Phone 1300 667 386, email [email protected] or go to visitredlandscoast.com.au for more information.
Redland Animal Shelter
The Animal Shelter will be closed on Christmas Day only.
Limited opening hours (9am-12pm) apply from 26 December 2024 up to and including 1 January 2025.
Redland City Council Libraries
Capalaba, Cleveland and Victoria Point libraries: closed from 5pm on Tuesday 24 December 2024 until 9am on Thursday 2 January 2025.
Dunwich Library: closed from 5pm on Tuesday 24 December 2024 until 9.30am on Thursday 2 January 2025.
Point Lookout Library: closed from 5pm on Friday 20 December 2024 until 9.30am on Friday 3 January 2025.
Russell Island Library: closed from 1pm on Saturday 21 December 2024 until 9.30am on Thursday 2 January 2025.
Mobile Library: closed from 4.30pm on Tuesday 24 December 2024 at the Mount Cotton stop. Reopening 9am on Thursday 2 January 2025 at the Wellington Point stop.
During closures, no items will be due and all after hours return chutes will be closed. The digital library will remain open – visit redland.qld.gov.au/libraries for ebooks, magazines, audiobooks and movies.
Redland Performing Arts Centre
The centre will be closed from 4pm on Tuesday 24 December 2024 and reopen 9am on Monday 6 January 2025.
Tickets can be purchased through the RPAC website during this time.
Please note: From 23 December the RPAC box office will temporarily operate from Council’s Customer Service Centre at the corner of Middle and Bloomfield streets, Cleveland due to Forecourt Redevelopment work at the venue. It will close at 4.30pm on 24 December and reopen at 8.30am on Monday 6 January.
Redland Art Gallery (RAG)
RAG, Cleveland will be closed from 4pm on Tuesday 24 December 2024 and reopen 9am on Monday 6 January 2025.
Redlands IndigiScapes Centre and Native Nursery, Capalaba
The IndigiScapes Centre and Botanic Gardens will be closed from 3pm Tuesday 24 December 2024 and reopen 8am on Monday 6 January 2025.
The walking trails will remain open.
The Native Nursery will be closed from 3pm on Monday 23 December 2024 and reopen 10am on Monday 13 January 2025.
IndigiScapes Café will be closed from 3pm on Monday 23 December 2024 and reopen 8am on Tuesday 7 January 2025.
