Redland City State Emergency Service (SES) Unit volunteers have been recognised for their exceptional contribution to the city.
At the 2025 Redlands Coast Australia Day Awards this week, eight volunteers were presented with achievement awards.
Mayor Jos Mitchell said local SES staff and volunteers carried out crucial work during difficult times while providing outstanding dedication and support to the Redlands Coast community.
“These eight members have performed exceptional work, above and beyond the normal course of duty, to provide significant contributions to the SES,” she said.
“We are privileged to have them as part of our community.”
The 2025 SES Australia Day Achievement Awards winners were:
- Brendon Linning – for his outstanding contribution to community education in storm preparedness and mentoring.
- Cindel Richardson – for her leadership skills, the ability to bring the best out of members, going above and beyond for the “orange family” (SES members) and using her work life experience for better training of SES members.
- David Frazer – has been acknowledged and recognised for his exceptional support to the Fit for Role Pilot Program (Brisbane Region)
- David Sondergeld – for his outstanding commitment in maintaining equipment readiness, ensuring the preparedness of the flood boat, and upholding high standards of cleanliness and organisation throughout the depot
- Diane Vandermeer – for excelling in risk assessments for the Redland City Unit, preparation of operational orders, conducting community education for the SES and her leadership within the Unit
- Lisa Nardone – who has shown exceptional dedication and service in securing equipment grants for the Redland City Unit
- Ross Alcorn – for his exceptional support to the Fit for Role Pilot Program (Brisbane Region)
- Vanessa Hein – for her outstanding commitment in making sure members are prepared for the storm season and due diligence in paperwork for new recruits
Council presented several awards at the 2025 Redlands Coast Australia Day Awards, with community advocate Sandy Smith being named Citizen of the Year for 2025.
