Residents of Redland City Council are advised to MONITOR CONDITIONS for localised flooding.
Council is aware of the following locations that may be impacted by localised flooding and advise drivers to stay informed of local conditions over the coming days:
- Mary Pleasant Drive, Birkdale
- Agnes Street, Birkdale
- Mary Street, Birkdale
- Allan Day Drive, Wellington Point
- Cr Tullock Drive and Redgrove Avenue, Birkdale
- Old Cleveland Road East (near Birkdale Recycling and Waste Centre)
- Pitt and Nelson roads, Wellington Point
- Collingwood Road, Birkdale
- Avalon Road, Sheldon
- Mount Cotton Road and Woodlands Drive, Sheldon
- Springacre Road, Thornlands
- Double Jump Road, Redland Bay
- Serpentine Creek Road, Redland Bay
- Hamilton Road and Pitt Street, Redland Bay
- Moores Road over Weinam Creek, Redland Bay
- Sturgeon Street, Ormiston [Hilliard’s Creek Footpath]
These are known flood-prone locations, however other local roads may also be impacted.
The ungated Leslie Harrison Dam is at 139.9% capacity and is spilling. This is causing some localised flooding to Capalaba Regional Park, Pittwin Road North, Capalaba, and John Fredericks Park, Banfield Lane, Capalaba which is home to the Capalaba Greyhound Racing Club, Capalaba Warriors Rugby League Club, and Capalaba Bulldogs Football Club.

What are we expecting?
The Bureau of Meteorology advises of locally INTENSE RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING may develop throughout today. DAMAGING WIND GUSTS may also occur with peak gusts of around 90 km/h are possible on the southeast coastal fringe. A Coastal Hazard Warning and Hazardous Surf Warning is current.
- Some roads may be flooded.
- Very heavy rain could make it dangerous to drive.
- Low lying roads may be impacted by floodwater.
- You may become isolated until flood waters recede.
What you need to do:
- Never drive, walk, ride through, play or swim in flood water. If it’s flooded, forget it.
- Consider the consequences of road and bridge closures. Damage to roads, bridges or buildings caused by flooding. Consider the need to make alternate arrangements for work, children, and travel.
- Drive to conditions and remain alert. Be aware of road hazards including mud, debris, and water in low lying areas.
- Obey all signs about road closures and instructions from emergency services.
- Use sandbags to block toilets, sinks and drains to stop sewerage backflow.
- Tell friends, family, and neighbours in the area.
If you find it hard to move quickly or have special or medical needs:
- Use your Person-Centred Emergency Plan (P-CEP) now if you have one.
- Make sure you have enough medicine for at least one week.
- If anyone in your house uses powered medical equipment, like a dialysis machine or ventilator, decide now where you will go in case you lose power.
- Call your support person or service to organise transport should you choose to move to an alternative location.
If you are a tourist, visitor, camper or caravanner:
- Be ready to move if the situation gets worse.
- Ask the campground owners whether the site floods.
- Check your surroundings of water catchments and monitor conditions.
