With a city-wide clean up in progress across Redlands Coast following significant impacts from Tropical Cyclone Alfred, Redland City Council is asking motorists to ensure they drive safely to the road conditions.
Some roads remain fully or partially closed today, Wednesday 12 March, and some traffic signals across the city are currently not operating due to power outages.
Council teams, along with the SES, Australian Defence Force and other agencies, have carried out significant work to remove most road hazards but there is still some fallen trees, other debris, and potholes, which can also present serious road hazards.
Motorists are asked to take extra care in these areas.
Please be mindful of workers on roadsides and slow down as you drive past them.
Tips for safe driving after storm damage
- Stay informed
Check the Redlands Coast Disaster Dashboard for road closure information before heading out. Some roads may be closed for repairs or for other safety reasons. Always obey road closure signs and detours.
- Slow down
Storm-related damage, such as fallen trees blocking the road, can make driving hazardous. Lower your speed and stay alert for unexpected obstacles. Drive with care, especially at night, and stay well away from fallen powerlines.
- Have an emergency kit in your car
Ensure your mobile phone is fully charged before driving, and pack an emergency kit that includes water, snacks, a torch, and first-aid kit in case you are delayed or need assistance.
Further advice on driving safely to conditions can be found on the Transport and Main Roads website
Fallen trees, branches and other debris blocking roads can be reported to Council at any time by contacting 3829 8999.
