Redland City Council has nominated places of refuge as a short-term measure as a last resort for residents who are unable to take refuge elsewhere during Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
The places of refuge open at 7am tomorrow, Thursday 6 March.
They will contain basic amenities only and no food. Please be aware that road access may be limited.
Places of refuge are located at:
- CLEVELAND: Cleveland Assembly Hall, 46 Smith Street Hall (Cleveland District State High School)
- NORTH STRADBROKE ISLAND: Dunwich Community Hall, 6 Ballow Road
- MACLEAY ISLAND: Macleay Island Community Hall, cnr Southsea Terrace and High Central Road
- RUSSELL ISLAND: BIMSARA Hall, 2 Union Street
- LAMB ISLAND: Pioneer Hall, 125 Lucas Drive
- COOCHIEMUDLO: Coochiemudlo Recreation Club, 41b Elizabeth Street
Residents heading to the refuges are to bring essentials only. For example: essential personal items, medications, phone, wallet/purse, keys, some form of identification, drinking water and non-perishable food.
Alcohol will not be permitted, and the refuges are not able to admit pets.
After Tropical Cyclone Alfred has passed, Council will determine if evacuation centres are required.
