Key messages:
- Essential Redland City Council services and many organisational services will be affected by Tropical Cyclone Alfred in the following days.
- All non-essential services are closing today and will be unavailable on 6 and 7 March 2025.
- How and when services return to normal will be assessed following the cyclone, once safety assessments of Council’s buildings can be made.
- Further updates on closures will be published once safety assessments can be made.
- Redland City Council’s Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) will remain at Stand Up, closely following weather updates and working across agencies and regions regarding to prepare for the cyclone and anticipated impacts.

Wednesday, 5 March: Call Centre hours have been extended to 6am – 9pm from today, and then 6am – 6pm on Saturday and Sunday with additional officers ready to take calls as our community continues preparing for, and recovering from, Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
After 9pm, emergency calls to our 24-hour number (07) 3829 8999 will still be answered through Council’s afterhours process.

Waste Services
Due to safety reasons, contracted waste site closures and barge availability, all kerbside bins on both the mainland and islands will not be serviced from tomorrow, until further notice. This includes all landfill, green waste and recycling kerbside collection services. Missed services will be collected during the next collection period.
All Recycling and Waste Centres will be closed from tomorrow until further notice. Recycle World will be closed on Friday 7 March.
Reminder: Before weather conditions deteriorate, secure ALL bins even if they are full. Either tie them up or store undercover or in a garage. Do not leave them out or in a place that they can blow away.
Customer Service Centres
All mainland customer service centres will close tomorrow, Thursday, until further notice.
Redlands Coast Visitor Information Centre
The Visitor Information Centre at 50 Middle Street, Cleveland, will be closed from tomorrow. Re-opening hours will depend on weather conditions. Phone 1300 667 386 or email [email protected] before attending.
Wildlife Rescue Service
The Redlands 24-hour Wildlife Rescue Service will be suspended from 5pm today, Wednesday 5 March until further notice. Calls will be diverted to the RSPCA.

Cleveland Aquatic Centre
All pools and the centre are now closed. Updates will be posted on the Cleveland Aquatic Centre Facebook page.
Bay Island Aquatic Centre, Russell Island
The centre is now closed until further notice.
Community Halls
All hall bookings across Redland City will remain current. Individual hirers should evaluate whether to cancel their event. If a hall is required as an Evacuation Centre, Council will notify the contact who has booked the space.
Libraries
All Redland City Council Libraries will be closed from tomorrow until further notice. Russell Island Library is now closed.
The Mobile Library stops for this week are also cancelled.

Loans and holds: Due dates have been extended to Thursday 13 March for any loans and holds that were to be collected between Wednesday 5 March and Wednesday 12 March.
Holds currently available for pickup at the 24-7 Lockers will remain in the lockers.
Please be aware that all return chutes will be closed.
All scheduled library programs from tomorrow are cancelled, as are all library meeting room bookings, until further notice.
Home deliveries scheduled for this week are postponed until next week.
The Digital Library is available as long as communications services continue. Log into Libby and Borrowbox with your library membership to download eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines. Library member services Freegal Music and Kanopy allow unlimited streaming as well as limited downloads of music, movies and TV series.
Redland Performing Arts Centre
RPAC is closed on Thursday and Friday, with Saturday night’s performance cancelled. Ticket holders will be notified of performance cancellations. Please check Redland Performing Arts Centre Facebook page for further changes or updates to performance schedules.
Redland Art Gallery
Redland Art Gallery will be closed from tomorrow. Please check Redland Art Gallery Facebook page for further updates.
Redland Animal Shelter
The shelter will close tomorrow from 12pm. Please check the Facebook page, Animal Shelter – Redland City Council, for live updates.
Redlands IndigiScapes Centre
All centre operations, including the IndigCafe, botanic gardens, walking tracks and native nursery have now closed and will not re-open until further notice. Additional updates on these closures will be posted to the Facebook page, IndigiScapes Centre – Redland City Council.
Tracks and Trails
All tracks and trails are now closed. With a high risk of falling branches, we ask the community not to use tracks and trails across the city until advised further.
