The way residents access information about Redland City Council’s capital works program has been transformed for the 2024–2025 financial year, with a new-look guide and interactive map now available online.
Council is committed to enhancing the city’s infrastructure, best practice asset management and sustainable growth, investing annually in a broad range of projects as part of the annual capital works program.
Council reports on the program as part of every annual budget, and this year is providing additional information about the program with a detailed supporting guide and an online map of proposed city projects.

Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell said the new resources provided residents with information about where and how Council planned to invest in community facilities such as roads, streetscapes, parks and public spaces across the city.
“We have listened to the community’s requests for more information about how Council spends ratepayer money on capital projects,” the Mayor said.
“I have been a strong advocate for more information for our community, and I am pleased that we have been able to deliver these resources so soon into the new Council term.
“I encourage all residents to download the guide from Council’s website or consult the online map to read about the projects being designed or delivered in their suburb this financial year.”
The program guide lists each project by asset category, provides a brief project description, and states whether the capital investment is for the project’s planning, design or construction stage, with the online map presenting information spatially.
The filter function on the map allows users to search for projects according to their category, pinpoint funded projects in their local area, or browse more information about project staging.
The three stages of project development represent an approach to capital works investment that helps ensure Council has numerous projects that are shovel-ready and can be considered for construction at budget time each year.
This approach also supports project eligibility for grant funding opportunities, which are often related to design and construction stages.
Examples of capital projects funded in the 2024–2025 Council Budget include the Wellington Street / Panorama Drive dual-lane upgrade at Thornlands and the Redland Performing Arts Centre refurbishment program, demonstrating the diversity of Council’s investment decisions.
Development of the capital works program each year involves consideration of community objectives and required levels of service to help ensure the right infrastructure is provided, at the right time, in the right places, and in a way that represents best value for money and sustainable use of resources.
The majority of Council’s annual capital investment is allocated to renewing its existing asset base.
The renewal of these assets is driven by strategic asset and service management plans that detail long-term planning for each individual asset, current and future, to optimise its life and enable efficient and sustainable services.
The capital works program has been carefully developed, however emerging priorities and unforeseen circumstances such as weather, contractor availability and budget considerations can impact project timelines and delivery.
