Redland City Council’s Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) is collaborating with Energex and Sealink to help get crews to key Redlands locations to restore power.
An Energex representative advised the LDMG that, after making inroads yesterday, last night’s weather has been a setback for restoring power across the Redlands, especially our island communities.
An Energex representative advised all main transmission lines to the islands were lost overnight, which will further delay restoring power to the Islands.
These are the lines that connect via Beenleigh, through Russell Island through the Southern Moreton Bay Islands to North Stradbroke Island.
The fault area is known, but for safety the full line needs to be patrolled before that can be reconnected. We will provide an update on this when we can.
Energex advised that, where they can, they are activating the pre-positioned generators they moved to island communities in advance of the weather event.
This morning Energex has restored power to shops on Russell and Macleay Islands and they are working to get North Stradbroke Island generator running.
Karragarra Island has too much damage to be able to activate the generator.
No update was available on Lamb Island and Coochiemudlo Island.
Sealink advised the LDMG they can support emergency operations from today, with consideration to changing conditions to ensure operations are safe. They have established a process for emergency and essential service providers to book to travel to and from the islands.
