UPDATE: #Stradbroke Island – grass fire. #QFES crews will to conduct a large back burning operation close to Dunwich on North Stradbroke Island this evening.

North, north-westerly winds will cause smoke from back burning operations to blow towards the south of the island and away from the Dunwich community.

Back burning operations will start close to the Dunwich community on the corner of Tazi… Road and Enterprise Drive around 6.30pm. A second burn will begin adjacent to the Tripod Track around the same time. These back burning operations will continue throughout the night and are expected to conclude early tomorrow. While the smoke should blow away from the community, residents may still notice some smoke in the area.

These back burning activities are being conducted to put a buffer between the main fire and the Dunwich community ahead of an expected wind change later tomorrow.
