Redland City produce has received national recognition with local business Pretty Produce winning a gold medal at the prestigious 2016 National Delicious Produce Awards.
Redland City Acting Mayor Cr Wendy Boglary said Pretty Produce had earned its place amongst the nation’s best producers.
“This local business has taken a great idea and run with it. It is wonderful to see their hard work recognised at an elite level,” she said.
“Pretty Produce grows edible flowers, weeds and leaves, with its goods gracing plates in some of Brisbane’s premiere restaurants and being shipped around the nation.
“The win will give Pretty Produce national coverage and exposure, all of which is great news for their business and our City.”
The business was announced as a gold medalist in the ‘From the Earth’ category at a VIP event at Pier One Sydney Harbour Hotel on Monday, touted as an Australian food industry ‘night of nights’.
Simone Jelley from Pretty Produce said the achievement followed an earlier win in the same category at the Queensland 2016 Delicious Produce Awards.
“With my husband Dave and an army of volunteers from all the four islands, the mainland and from all over the world, we have been able to bring this unusual yet timely ‘outside of the square’ agricultural project to life,” she said.
“Pretty Produce has become an artisan product that’s in high demand. We are racing to meet this demand from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane chefs.
“Any curious folk can book in for ‘Tasting Tours’ and see what all the fuss is about. We really do push the boundaries of what is edible.
“We are blessed to be able to base ourselves on Lamb Island with the warm and caring Lamb Island community. The marketing looks after itself really…with sun, sparkling sea, dolphins, dugongs and the famous Redlands volcanic soils!”
Division 5 Councillor for the Southern Moreton Bay Islands Mark Edwards said it highlighted that it was possible to run productive and successful businesses from the islands.
“Pretty Produce is based on Lamb Island and is an ideal case study for industry on the islands”, he said.
“Simone has grown her business from humble beginnings to the thriving enterprise it is today.
“Pretty Produce continues to expand its business and offer new products and services, so I am sure this is just one of many accolades to come.
“It is great to hear local success stories and I offer my congratulations to Simone and her business team.”
