The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) today announced the batonbearers who will carry the Queen’s Baton to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018).
For the Cleveland leg sportspeople such as Tatiana Grigorieva, Jade Edmistone and Daniel Fox will be joined by local community service heroes.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said she was immensely proud of batonbearers and the role they would take when the Queen’s Baton arrived in Redland City on Saturday 31 March 2018.

“I am delighted by the names announced today of batonbearers who will relay the Queen’s Baton through our beautiful City,” Cr Williams said.
“Community-nominated, our batonbearers showcase Australians who have reached great heights and achieved remarkable things – from sporting successes to dedicating their lives to improving the lives of others.
“It is exciting to see we have Commonwealth, Paralympic and Olympic medalists joining our local leg.
“It is also wonderful to see local heroes such as George Hill, who has dedicated much of his life in the service of surf lifesaving and Keiron Douglass, who continues to work tirelessly to raise funds for children’s hospitals.
“Each and every batonbearer is a well-deserving recipient of this honour and this list recognises and celebrates the diversity of incredible achievement in the community.
“Street level and community celebration details will be announced on 17 November and I encourage all Redlanders to support these great people when the Queen’s Baton visits our area.”
GOLDOC Chairman Peter Beattie AC said being a batonbearer would be a rare and unforgettable experience.
“We couldn’t be more excited for the batonbearers who will be a part of this rich tradition. We are honoured to have so many great Australians carry Her Majesty’s message for Gold Coast 2018 and we look forward to celebrating their stories and inspiring generations to come.”

From youngsters to some of Australia’s most accomplished legends, the Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) recognises the achievements and aspirations of Australians from all walks of life.
Collectively across the country, batonbearers will take more than a million steps to bring the Baton to its final destination, the Games’ Opening Ceremony on 4 April 2018.
The uniquely designed Baton starts its Australian journey on 25 December 2017, 100 days before the Opening Ceremony.
From Canberra on 25 January 2018, the Baton will switch gears to a traditional Relay and be carried by great Australians through QBR celebration communities around the country.
Since its launch from Buckingham Palace on 13 March 2017, the Baton has inspired athletes and fans across Africa, the Caribbean, the Americas and Europe.
Currently it is in Malaysia and is set to visit the remaining 15 Commonwealth nations in Asia and Oceania before arriving in Brisbane on Christmas Eve.
